Transcriptions

These pages will contain all of the transcriptions made as part of the Silent Form research project. These include all of the recordings – both master takes and subsequently released alternate takes – associated with Ornette Coleman’s first three albums on the Atlantic label. They are listed chronologically in order of recording date, and divided according to initial album release. 

By presenting the music in this way, we aim to reframe this period of intense creativity as a process of transition away from the established practices of bebop towards what would eventually become free jazz.
